Hypothesise

eLook, WordReference, Dictionary.com - David Gerard 14:52, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, David, but I am aware that the infinitive form is acceptable in the "s" form. What I question is the legibility (and thus the acceptability) of the conjugated form "hypothesises". One out of one of the real people I asked to look at the word agreed that it appears to be a mangled plural form of "hypotheses". Not exactly a great sample size, I realize, though Google also agrees. In the interest of readability, I think the "-izes" version should stay. Obviously there are plenty of other "-ises" verbs in there, and I understand the value of maintaining a consistent dialect through the article. This just seemed exceptionally odd, or I wouldn't have bothered changing it.
Unrelated note: Wikipedia is an amusingly small world. You came up on Slashdot today for obscure reasons :). The video was interesting (and the article itself was a great read), though I think the author (commentator) was probably somewhat off on his perception of the flow of edits. HorsePunchKid 21:54, 2005 Mar 28 (UTC)

Orca

Short of creating a disambig page (and replacing the top line of the Orca article with a standard « For other uses of the word Orca... » line, yes, the to-be-filled-in by some future author link belongs there. The Orca, a sea-monster, is slain by Rogero in chant XI, when it is about to devour Angelica (shades of Andromeda's story). See the Encyclopædia Britannica, amongst other sources. Urhixidur 21:56, 2005 May 16 (UTC)

Sounds good to me, then. Really the only thing that threw me off was that there was no reference to the Orca in the Orlando Furioso page, which suggested maybe it wasn't actually significant enough to warrant a notice on the main Orca page. I hope it wasn't inappropriate to put my comment in the edit summary — I wasn't sure it was worth opening a talk topic for. Thanks for the extra information, in any case! HorsePunchKid 01:19, 2005 May 17 (UTC)

Misunderstanding

I think you're misunderstanding me. I did say he made no notification--a previous notification. He made it AFTER he'd transferred the pic into ifd, and I'm not satified with that. The whole thing is just like a conspiracy: he removed it, made it orphaned, dumbed it into the deletion pages... -- Jerry Crimson Mann 22:35, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I do see what you're saying, I just don't agree that it's a conspiracy (aside from the fact that only one person was taking any action). He did remove it from the template (whether that was justified is irrelevant, I believe). Since that was the only place it was being used, it was eligible for deletion, so Zscout370 first posted a notice on your talk page, then listed it on IfD. It's a pretty reasonable progression of events, really. It smacks more of excessive efficiency than conspiracy :). HorsePunchKid 22:44, 2005 Jun 9 (UTC)
Well, it's really efficient....just too fast, isn't it...*sigh*...just happened in a nanosecond...now I'm a bit of the Luddite, feeling so dismayed and helpless...This is my first time I'm facing the deletion problem... =( (gonna see the shrink...feeling sick) --Jerry Crimson Mann 22:49, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
For a simple yet humorous explanation concerning my typo experience in image deletion problem, I, Jerry Crimson Mann, award you this barnstar whole-heartedly.

Thanks! I went ahead and made similar modifications to American Platinum Eagle and American Silver Eagle. The layout on the Silver Eagle page is perhaps a bit questionable; it looks better at smaller browser sizes, at least. HorsePunchKid 03:15, 2005 Jun 11 (UTC)

My sig

Just wanted to let you know that your "How's my driving?" RFC signature is by far the funniest I've seen here. The mental image it conjures of a half-asleep Wikipedian swerving through sentences and careening off punctuation marks while other editors honk and flash their lights is endlessly amusing. :)HorsePunchKid 08:22, July 23, 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks =). Funny enough there was a night a didn't sleep at all, i just wikipedia'd all through the morning and rest of the day instead. At one point I ran into that same exact situation you described. Hehe. Wikipediaing under the incluence of sleep drunkeness is not recommended, do not try it at home. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 08:32, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

Stewie Griffin: scatophile?

In the episode "Lethal Weapons," Stewie falls into a female baby's carriage and says "I smell a messy diaper. God, why does that turn me on?" But since that's the only thing I can think of to support the idea of Stewie as a scatophile, I won't be rushing to add that back to the article. Cromulent Kwyjibo 22:28, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Ah! Thanks for the reference. I don't think an isolated incident is enough to draw the conclusion, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for other instances. If there are enough to demonstrate a pattern of behavior, I've got no objection to it being in the article. Great username, by the way; I've seen your edits in various places and appreciated the reference. :)HorsePunchKid 22:33, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
I agree, there's no pattern right now. Thanks for the compliment, I like your username too, though I don't get the reference. Cromulent Kwyjibo 21:20, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Honestly, I don't get the reference in my username, either. The moniker was foisted upon me way back in high school, and, having no other use for it, I chose to use it as my generic online alias. I should make up a better story to go with it... —HorsePunchKid 08:18, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

A Thank You From The League Against Gratuitous Abuse of Semicolons

Yeah, I botched it in Blackface with regard to my attempt at a grammatical patch over a congealed mass of commas by putting a semicolon in; the portion after the semicolon would not have been a complete sentence. (Was this one right?) Thanks for the patch, and let it be observed that C programmers tend to overuse semicolons- something of a feature of the programming language. *grin* Kistaro Windrider 08:03, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome :). I'm glad you fixed the commas, though. Comma abuse bothers me much more than the occasional incorrect semicolon. As a programmer and fan of long, complicated sentences I, too, have been accused of overusing semicolons. I find them to be a useful tool for strengthening the relationship between adjacent sentences. Perhaps others don't really read them that way, though. —HorsePunchKid 08:15, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

Blackface, "effect" and "affect"

This is just me talking to myself, but I need to archive a link to this version[1] of User:Deeceevoice's talk page, demonstrating his inability and—worse—lack of desire to be civil. To those of you out there reading about this issue regarding Blackface, you'd do well to read that talk link first. HorsePunchKid 2005-11-28 04:55:49Z

I haven't even read your note. The word is "affect." Period. Per Roget's Thesaurus, various appropriate synonyms are: "ASSUME 4, act, bluff, counterfeit, fake, feign, pretend, put on, sham, simulate." GOT THAT? deeceevoice 01:17, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

Don't presume to lecture me about my attitude. I've quoted Roget's Thesaurus, and you assume I've somehow "misread" it? Please. Don't insult my intelligence. I could say the same thing with regard to your reading of the online dictionary. Presumably, if you can access an online dictionary, then you can also access Roget's online. Why not take a moment and do so -- before you ASS-ume I'm too simple-minded to read it correctly? When I need an English lesson from you, I'll let you know. deeceevoice 01:39, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

Wow! Calm down there, deeceevoice. You can have it your way, though if you'd read my notes instead of intentionally ignoring them, you'd see I've got a pile of references, too, so that tack will get you nowhere. :( Fortunately, I've got better things to do than quibble semantics with people who don't know how to have a polite conversation. I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I hope the rest of my edits to the Blackface article were not amiss. —HorsePunchKid 01:55, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

This is not a war of wills, nor is it a pissing match; this is not about 'having it my way.' This is about what is appropriate syntax and what is not. "Effect" is clearly incorrect. Now, if I had written, "White blackface performers in the past used burnt cork and, later, greasepaint to affect jet-black skin and exaggerated lips, often wearing woolly wigs, gloves, tails, or ragged clothes to effect (rather than "complete") the transformation," that would have been correct. "Affect" would have been incorrect in the second instance (not to mention redundant). If you fail to understand the difference, there is little I can say to educate you. Next time, I suggest you do your homework a little more thoroughly before assuming someone incapable of understanding a simple list of synonyms and then writing them a lengthy, didactic and incorrect missive about what you incorrectly understand to be proper syntax. You will note that the other wholly unnecessary, niggling -- and in one case, obviously inappropriate -- changes you made in the body of the article also have been reverted. If it's not an improvement to a piece, then just leave it be. Changing something simply because it gives you something to do is just plain silly -- not to mention annoying. Next time, you might consider sticking to cleaning up the references, which, presumably, you've done adequately. I haven't checked them because, frankly, that sort of thing doesn't interest me in the least. But it's a necessary contribution, and I thank you for that. deeceevoice 07:26, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

HorsePunchKid, thanks for your comments on Blackface. I know nothing about the subject, but do like to bring some common sense to things, even if it takes some effort. HistoryBA 20:21, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

I'm going to walk you through this one very simply. Let's start here: Is there currently, or has there ever been a cartoon broadcast on television by the name of the Breakfast Monkey? Hinklethedink 17:20, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

I welcome discourse with anyone capable of communicating in a courteous and constructive manner. It seemed like we could have had that kind of dialog, but now you appear to be resorting to condescension and vacuous rhetoric. Please check out the current version of the Gerard Way article. I have tried to make it more biographical, with less focus on his failed animation career. Hopefully this is closer to what you'd like to see in the article. —HorsePunchKid 05:33, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

I commend you on your re-write. It seems well-reasoned and flows well. I tweaked two things, in the interest of a just compromise. I removed the details about the show, as I believe it should be saved for the show's innevitable entry. I also modified it to reflect that all that has been verified is that Way has said these things. I do hope that is agreeable. Incidently,I can't access your comment regarding your motive for leaving out Funhaus. Enlighten me, please. I apologize if I've caused tempers to flare. Months of saving those entries from truly vacuous and idiotic edits has frayed my nerves somewhat. Hinklethedink 06:24, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

My Chemical Romance yields no sound of post-punk, darkwave, goth-rock, goth-punk, gothic symphony, or goth metal sounds, therefore i would like to keep the genre under punk and emocore at most, adding goth will merely add confusion. It does not matter how goth they appear, they are not. Punk is a more appropriate genre.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Synthetic coma (talkcontribs) 2005-11-19 17:46:29

I've replied on the relevant talk page. Sorry it took me a while! HorsePunchKid 2005-10-21 03:50:23Z

Id rather not change it, so if you read your refrence then you would know that it is a description of appearence. not genre. yahoo launch has good genre summarys, check there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.218.244.11 (talkcontribs)

To quote the primary reference on the page (an article by Rolling Stone, whom I consider to be reputable authority):
the party is well under way when the five members of the New Jersey goth-punk quintet
I will believe RS's categorizations over Yahoo!'s, though I'll check out theirs just for reference. In any case, genres are never very well defined; hence I have made an effort to be inclusive in the description. HorsePunchKid 2005-10-23 20:46:13Z

Ive changed the genre to Alt Rock and Punk rock, using Rolling Stone as a verifiable source. I also added Alternative Press to change the genre as well. Here's the deal, my RS source is valid, and the genre remains, OR Rolling Stone is not a valid source, in which your genre must be removed too.

Happy to free the genre Goth-punk and Goth Rock from the clutches of evil, Pluto Uebel

Comment to 'Articles for deletion/Thunderbolt (band)'

Regarding [4] The initial entry could not be finished yesterday, hence the entry being only the virtually non-informative stub for a day. However, the article in its current form (and will be updated as soon as the next record title is announced) is well worth preserving :) There has also been a remark that the 'mark for speedy deletion' tag within the article was once removed (yes, I know... BIG no-no), however that was an unintentional mishap due to database update lag (similar double commit, and me not paying proper attention to the error message before resubmitting).

Your edits have improved the article dramatically. I will try to clean things up here and there to make it fit into Wikipedia better. The only real problem I see is that it's rather difficult to find information about them online. Without that, it's hard to establish notability, unfortunately. Please don't be discouraged if the article doesn't survive the deletion process! It may be better to try and write an article about a more general topic, like "Scandanavian heavy metal", which could include information about Thunderbolt. —HorsePunchKid 05:25, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Thunderbolt (band) new release

Comment to your last edit: Source of info about the pending release is the band itself. About a month ago all the work was done (recording, mixing etc), but as long as matters is in the hands of the record label they were not yet certain when it will actually be released.

Well and good, but do you have a verifiable source? Maybe a press release or an interview in a magazine? A link from the record label? It's not that I specifically doubt what you're saying; it's just that one has to be skeptical of this sort of information when trying to write an ostensibly encyclopedic article. By the way, thanks for your work so far on the article! I'm glad that the deletion process didn't drive you away. It's not quite over yet, but it looks very unlikely that the article will be deleted. :)HorsePunchKid 03:06, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

My apologies! It is not, in fact, my browser, but rather the fact that for long documents, I tend to import them into Vim for editing. Unfortunately, Vim works with a severely limit charset. In this particular case, I wanted to do a search & replace, having moved List of internet slang to List of Internet slang. I'll certainly be more careful in the future, though; perhaps this is something that the new "Show changes" button can really help with. —HorsePunchKid 20:13, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

Glad it helped! It would be nice if somehow MediaWiki would automatically wrap any sigs in some kind of span; maybe a <span class="sig">. I'm sure people would find uses for it, like turning all signatures off, for example. Maybe I'll file a feature request for that... —HorsePunchKid 17:21, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

link spam reverts

Eh, you sure managed to revert those quickly... when I first loaded his user contributions list, he was the top edit on almost all of them... then after I did about 6 I got one you reverted, so went back and reloaded his contributions... and you'd gotten the rest of them.  :) Bushytails 05:58, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Well, I do get very easily annoyed by link spam. I've ended up with some pretty high-traffic link spam pages on my watchlist, like Automobile. I didn't notice immediately (shame on me for assuming bad faith), but the astronomyonline.org fellow did eventually start putting in specific links instead of just links to his or her home page. Anyway, Firefox facilitated the reverting: just pop open a few diffs to see if it's that same link being added and simultaneously pop open the corresponding history page so you can get to a previous version once verifying the diff. Takes longer to describe it than to do it. :) Thanks for helping revert those, in any case! —HorsePunchKid 17:08, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
There's a possibility I'll become an admin soon, and rumor has it there's a rollback button that automatically reverts a user's edits from the contributions page.  :)
I reverted all his later ones as well, that linked to specific pages... a quick check of the links showed the pages had far less content than the wikipedia articles, and still were of no use... he responded to this on his new talk page. Bushytails 21:02, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for looking deeper into the links that were being added. I was just about to once I realized that I was reverting the more specific links he'd been adding, but I decided it was probably time to call it a night. And as you point out, there are other people (hopefully including you, soon!) who can perform these rollbacks more efficiently. I figured by that time, at least one admin must have seen what was going on. —HorsePunchKid 21:15, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

USA PATRIOT Act

I've decided to copy you in on this comment that I added to Talk:USA PATRIOT Act.

I'm very sad to say that the article is next to useless. Neither the USA Act or USA PATRIOT Act detail the various clauses. There is tantalising detail here about what the Act contained: for instance, it allowed the FBI to employ translators!

I notice that the actual text of the Act itself has ten titles, each with their own important subsections. Hardly any are covered in this article. This makes it impossible for me to evaluate the criticisms levelled at the Act. I find that this is sad, especially in the light of the following sentence (from the article): "According to The Gallup Organization, the public is wary but ignorant about the USA PATRIOT Act." This article doesn't do much at all to assist with informing anyone about the scope of the Act!

Surely we can do better than this?

Ta bu shi da yu 09:42, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Indeed. It almost seems like USA PATRIOT Act should be moved to Controversy over the USA PATRIOT Act (or something more Wikipedia-ish), and we should start a new article from scratch about the act itself. I think anyone coming to the page for information about the act itself is going to be very frustrated by the emphasis on the debate about it. Is there a {{fork}} template à la {{merge}}? —HorsePunchKid 20:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Book of lists

I'm aware of the Wikipedia self-reference exceptions, I just think saying "many sites, including Wikipedia." calls too much attention to the fact that the reader is currently reading Wikipedia. Compare to the wording "Many sites on the Inernet, such as Wikipedia, ..." or "Sites on the Internet, particularly Wikipedia, ..." Not a big deal, and I have no problem with the way it is now, just wanted to explain where I was coming from, so you don't think I'm some fanatic that just goes around deleting all Wikpedia mentions. :) Turnstep 23:14, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks HorsePunchKid! (btw I don't know why but your name makes me laugh) I tried your cool css username highlight thingy but it doesnt seem to have any effect, this is what I did;

have I done something stupid? thanks Martin 11:48, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Pretty close. The trick is that your user-Bluemoose identifier is a class of the <span>, so what you want is something more like this:
span.user-Bluemoose { background: #DFD; }
Hope that helps! (My monobook.css, for reference.) HorsePunchKid 19:14, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Gallery Project link

Heya. The link I put there is for a GPL integration plugin for Gallery2 and the Geeklog CMS. I don't consider this 'advertising'. There are several other integration projects for G2 and I think it's completely appropriate to have them on this page - would it make you feel better if I listed them all in a seperate section?

Andy 16:03, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

I don't get it. You removed my link to a useful resource yet you left the link to http://www.embeddedgallery.com/ which doesn't actually offer anything? Please help me understand!

Andy 14:43, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Firstly, my latest edit was to remove the blatant copyright violation that User:Dmolavi introduced; I'd love to see the article expanded, but that's definitely not the way to do it! I didn't look at whatever else had been contributed, because the copyvio was the pressing issue at that moment.
Secondly, my criteria for deciding whether or not to remove a link is simple. Do I think it will be useful to someone researching the topic of the article? In the case of your link, I thought not; it seemed like you were just using Wikipedia to promote your code. Honestly, though, the fact that you took the time to ask me about it (which is more than 99% of the people whose links I revert) suggests to me that you had good intentions, regardless of what I may have thought.
Anyway, I restored your link (with a little bit of copy-editing). Greetings from a fellow G2 hacker, by the way! I wrote the updates module and Google Maps module, which seem to have become moderately popular. :) HorsePunchKid 18:53, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Honestly, my intention was to point people at an integration they might not otherwise know about. I would like to maybe add a section to have them all there. Do you think a section in the main article outlining embedding would be appropriate?
I'll have to check out your G2 modules - I like the Google Map idea!

Hi. I noticed you voted a "weak delete" on Schrödinger's cat in fiction, saying that if it was kept, you would help clean and organize it a bit. I took a crack at this, since I'd like to see the article stay — if for no other reason, it might keep fiction cruft from building up in the main Schrödinger's cat page. I'd be curious to hear if the revised version meets your approval. Anville 20:51, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Very nice work! I'd definitely like to see this version kept. The one thing that stuck out to me is that the introductory paragraphs—while very readable and enjoyable—do not present the instances in chronological order. I think that could be useful in terms of tracking the history of how the idea spread into popular culture and such. HorsePunchKid 21:19, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Orjuna

Hi! How u find out my article:)? Luka Jačov 09:12, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello! I actually came across it while fixing instances where people had written 1920's instead of 1920s (see below, actually). I noticed you removed the categories I added. What do you think about the new ones? I think they're more accurate and relevant than the first two that I added. HorsePunchKid 20:55, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

1920's or 1920s?

For the record, either 1920s or 1920's can be considered correct. The Chicago Manual of Style says that the version without apostrophes is correct, but the Scholastic Guides Checking Your Grammar says that apostrophes can be included.

Oh well... as long as we're consistent. Vontafeijos 15:21, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Fascinating. You wouldn't write "nineteen twentie's" or "nineteen twenty's", would you? :) I hadn't planned to spend any more time on fixing them, anyway; it was mostly an excuse for finding some random articles to improve in some way. Anyway, thanks for the note. I will have to keep in mind that some may really prefer the apostrophe! HorsePunchKid 20:49, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

From my talk page:

This has been going on quite long enough. I've opened an arbcom case, and as you are party to this conflict, could you go make a statement there? I think Rex really needs to be dealt with. Being a third party myself, I'm not sure if I got every one, but I'm going to alert Mr. Tibbs, Kizzle, Derex, Jtdirl, and Woohookitty as well. I'd appreciate if you could alert anyone I've missed. Thanks. Dmcdevit·t 06:18, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

I thought the other description was just a farce

The whole thing about life being evil, antibodhisattvas. I've never even heard of that term in my few years reading on buddhism. Also there is no such concept as evil in buddhism.

Kate will tell you how many edits you have, although i think it is the right attitude not to care. I think to have a clean fight you probably would need a bit more experience, but otherwise I can't see why anyone could oppose. Maybe I could nominate you in a few weeks or so. thanks Martin 22:05, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Further comment, sorry I was in a bit of a rush yesturday; If you make sure you are up to speed with admin type duties (the deletion areas, tagging speedies at Special:Newpages, blocking policy etc.) then that always goes a long way to reassuring people that you are not an insane vandal intent on world domination ;) seriously though, from what I have seen you are perfectly capable, its just good to demonstrate your skills in action. thanks Martin 11:29, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the tips! I've actually spent a fair amount of time on Newpages and Recentchanges, but I am not specifically involved with the RC Patrol or CVU or whatnot. As evidence, it looks like about 10% of the ~900 pages in the article namespace on my watchlist are red links, and the large majority of those are speedies that I've tagged. By the way, ~2,700 edits with ~1,800 in the article namespace, for what it's worth. HorsePunchKid 2005-10-21 05:55:34Z
Well thats good, I am very happy to nominate you for adminship, but as I'm sure you realise it can be an unpredictably rough ride sometimes, if you're sure you want to go for it then thats great. Martin 20:32, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
I have thick skin and am prepared for a rough ride, as long as the criticism is constructive. I have poked around at a few other nominations and seen that people do make an attempt to provide useful suggestions. In any case, I believe the worst-case outcome is that the nomination fails and I continue to enjoy working on the project. Please feel free to nominate me at your convenience! :) HorsePunchKid 2005-10-22 02:28:15Z

Re Lake Forest High School (Illinois) references

You're welcome! :) I haven't found a source on Dave Eggers, although in my Google search it seems well known that he went to high school with Vaughn, and Eggers' Wikipedia article says he grew up in Lake Forest, so I guess it's a safe bet. I've got nothing on Peter Klein, though. HollyAm 03:39, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Thomas Ockenhouse

the template i put on the page was not a mistake. I intended it to be speedily deleted. someone has been creating a bunch of pages like that. they all seem to be part of some story. I think it merits speedy deletion.--Alhutch 06:27, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

It was a mistake in that it ({{nocontext}}) was a redlink. ;) The only template I knew of with a similar name was {{context}}, hence the change. You'll probably want to speedy Aleks Nakutis, too, by the way! HorsePunchKid 2005-10-21 06:27:46Z
Odd; now it is not red. I was just getting a red Template:nocontext for some reason, though I see now that the template (or redirect, rather) has existed for some time. Curious. HorsePunchKid 2005-10-21 06:32:49Z
yeah i think i typed it in wrong the first time. i probably put ({{noncontext}}) instead of ({{nocontext}}), which is a speedy tag. you weren't wrong to make the change you did. keep up the good work and i'll see you around the wiki :-) Thanks, Alhutch 06:37, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Schoolwatch Association of Photographers

Hello HorsePunchKid. I am currently in the process of assembling a Schoolwatch photographers organization on Wikipedia, and after noticing a number of the wonderful photographs you've uploaded, [5] I was wondering if you would be interested in joining our group by capturing other schools within your local area. If so, please take a look at Category:School images and see what we've accomplished so far. Bahn Mi 06:02, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations on becoming a sysop. Have you had an opportunity to consider joining the photographers group? Bahn Mi 21:00, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Hello and thanks and sorry for the slow response! I lost your message in the jumble here on my talk page. I would gladly do what I can to take photos of schools around here. This isn't exactly a great season for photographing buildings, but it's not too bleak now that we've got some snow on the ground. :) If there's anything specific I can do to help, just let me know. I'll keep you informed of the school photos I add, if you'd like. HorsePunchKid 2005-12-15 06:57:14Z

Thank you

Thank you for your help with my biochemistry question. If there is anything I can every do to repay the favor, please feel free to ask on my talk page. Warmest regards --Neutralitytalk 06:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Adminship

HorsePunchKid, I think Wikipedia would benefit if you were to become an admin. What do you think?--Commander Keane 11:48, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Too slow! ;)

Hey

What's with the skinhead look? R u a swimmer or somethin'? I've been seriously direlict in reading and responding in a timely fashion to notes left on my talk page. Thanks for visiting from time to time and keeping me abreast of this 'n' that. Peace 2 u. deeceevoice 06:53, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

I wish I were a swimmer! I don't have the physique for it, sadly. No, the unintentional skinhead look did not last long. I got home very late one night and decided to shave my head after having had long, hippie hair for the better part of a decade (photographic proof!). I didn't keep it shaved, though; too much effort. It's growing back, as you can see here. ;) Thanks for the note, and take care. HorsePunchKid 2005-11-29 08:11:56Z

Hi (from User:Monagz)

Thanks for the response; that was faster than I expected. (I hope this time I writing in an o.k. place, which I think I am) I was just trying to do my assignment for a media class. I did find something to write, and I am now hoping it lasts a while (the longer it lasts, the more marks I get) before someone changes it. That was actually easy once I got the idea to look at several random pages in a row, (there are lots of stubs) but I had to do some research. Next time I hope to write on something I have first-hand knowlege on. You seem to be experienced... maybe I can learn something from you? Monagz 18:39, 28 November 2005 (UTC) Thanks again!

No problem, and this is definitely the right place to be writing to me. I'm not as experienced as some of the people around here, but if I can help in any way, just let me know! HorsePunchKid 2005-11-29 08:15:13Z
Alrighty then! Great! Monagz 18:28, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Conversion and converse

In traditional logic they are not the same thing and more than a different part of speech. "Conversion" is the process of inference and may require other rules in arriving at the "converse". "Converse" is the product of conversion. The "converse" article needs to be eliminated and redirected to "Conversion", but there is also the discussion that they should somehow be merged with "Inverse", which I think is not correct. You're a sysop!

Hi, HorsePunchKid, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=

Please also add your name to WP:LA =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:29, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations! I was very pleased to see you nominated for adminship. I've run across you frequently on Wikipedia (we must share some interests, at least) and I've always been impressed by your work. Enjoy your new role! — Knowledge Seeker 04:42, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Hey, congrats! I had no idea you were even up, I would've voted for you. (Looks like you made it just fine without me ;) ) · Katefan0(scribble)/my ridiculous poll 04:49, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi, Nichalp, Knowledge Seeker, Katefan0, and anyone else who supported me (or would have, at least ;-)! Thank you for your support, and I hope I will prove to be an effective administrator. I'll try to make the rounds and thank ye all individually, but it's going to take a while to get to everyone. :) HorsePunchKid 2005-12-01 05:30:16Z

Thanks (Flutamide)

Hey, thanks for helping me out with Flutamide. I don't think I've ever run into an edit conflict on an article I've just started, but for once it was a pleasant surprise. — Knowledge Seeker 09:19, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Oops! Sorry for the conflict. I actually had the history open in another tab and refreshed right before I submitted to make sure I wouldn't conflict with you, but it now occurs to me that that doesn't quite cover the possibilities. :) I wasn't really sure what to do with the unknown values, so that's why I left them as undefined parameters. Thanks for the note! HorsePunchKid 2005-12-03 09:22:48Z

voting tendencies

I thought that I would let you know that I have done a self-analysis on my voting tendencies, based on statistical analysis. I had to do it by hand though because I couldn't figure out a tool to use. Took me about 2 hours to do, and then I gave up. I will link to my analysis here: User:Zordrac#AFD_votes. As a little quick conclusion, I have voted "delete" 61% of the time (in pure keep/delete votes). Also, of over 500 articles that I voted on, and with over 100 which worked out in the opposite manner to which I voted, I only nominated 2 for undeletion. A couple of others were marginal (there was one that was deleted with no votes) and there is one in progress which, if it is deleted, looks like a very good candidate for undeletion due to steamrolling - a second case of someone making false claims of sock puppetry to try to influence the vote. In this case, however, it is a case where that is the *ONLY* method of steamrolling (as opposed to the Sholom Keller one, where several methods were independently used), and it is incredibly obvious, by someone who seems to be a WikiStalker. The article I am referring to is Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Joey_Hawkins. I am just getting in quick there. However, whether I actually nominate it or just use it as an example of steamrolling is another matter. The article in fact is borderline with notoriety - yes he is one of the most successful high school football coaches in USA, which we can prove. But he is still just a football coach. So at this stage I probably wouldn't nominate it for undeletion. But the correct processes were certainly not followed in that case. Another example for you to look at is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Absolute Boyfriend. With Absolute Boyfriend, it will now pass. That was a seperate kind of issue, however, and is the "sheep" problem, as evidenced with Tzmer whatever his name was - in other words, people were making unresearched and incorrect decisions about something.

So we have 2 prime examples of bad process, versus 2 prime examples of poor voting practise. What the end result is is irrelevant really. But what I have seen with the Joey Hawkins case is that *because* I noted elsewhere that it was unfair, some admins decided to deliberately influence the vote. Now, in my opinion, that's not the right way to go about things. That was a similar case to what happened with the Sholom Keller case - where *because* I pointed out that it was not following correct process, more abuses happened!

Anyway, you can look at my votes by clicking on the links in my page, and you will see that I research my votes, and never act as a sheep. You are free to disagree with my decision though. I am never influenced by other people, and always research everything. I have on a number of occasions been the only one to vote keep when everyone else voted delete - and in about half of these where others voted afterwards, the end result was keep because of my arguments, including people changing their vote from delete to keep because they had been acting like sheep.

I think that an awful lot of untrue things have been said in order to incorrectly support admins who are behaving badly. Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 19:38, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank You

I'll be sure to read WP:CSD, I was unaware I incorrectly tagged that item. I never heard of the movie and tried to research but found nothing, so I tagged it nn-bio. I apologize if it caused problems. Make sure to warn me if I do it again. In The Flesh?

Looks good! You can keep the "TALK" in lowercase if you want (since the small-caps property will make it still look uppercase), but perhaps you've got it uppercased to keep it from being too tiny. Regardless, the line height looks right, which was the point of this. :) HorsePunchKid 2005-12-04 06:19:42Z
